Dear Dad,
Today as I hold on to my little bundle of joy and wish her all the happiness in the world, I can’t help but look back at all those things you have done for me to have my dreams come true.
I wonder if you cried too, looking at me for the first time just like I did now. The feeling of wanting to protect my daughter and give her everything she wants is just an overwhelming emotion, one that I’m sure no one will understand better than you.
You made sure I studied in one of the finest schools in the city, even though you were not able to get the best. Thank you for staying up with me during the nights even after a hectic day at work, and helping complete my projects- being it cutting and sticking pictures in my craft book, or even making coffee for my midnight study sessions during exams.
When the time came for me to choose a college, you stood by my side even as I rejected the safe and popular study courses, and decided to pursue what I felt was my calling- Aviation. So what if our family is filled with engineers and doctors? They’ll now get the best pilot in the country. As for the course being expensive, don’t worry- I’ve got you covered, you said.
And every time I attempted to make food, you always said it was yummy even if it was burnt and tasted bad. After all, I was your princess and nothing I do would be short of special! Which could be why you also easily accepted the love of my life and convinced the family for our wedding.
I never really understood the sacrifices you did to ensure I got what I wanted – be it working late, or even giving up on your dreams of buying a car. You never let me see those days when we hardly had money to meet grocery expenses, because you taught me to save up on my own and made me financially strong and independent. (I still have the piggy bank!)
Now it’s time for me to start planning and saving up for my little one, and my only aim is to provide her the life she deserves. And on the day she chooses to pursue her dreams, I’ll be ready to support her, just like you did for me.
Thank you Dad, for making me who I am today. You have been my role model, and I hope I can be as good a parent as you were to me. I can’t wait to get started on this new journey, with you by my side.
